All the Light this Lodge can Bestow

All the Light this Lodge can Bestow

A newly raised Master Mason went to his first night of instruction. The lodge instructor asked, “Before we get started, does anyone have a question?”

“What is the true nature of Masonic light?” asked the new Master Mason.

“It cannot be described in words,” replied the instructor.

“Then how can I learn about it that I might receive all the light this lodge can bestow?” asked the new Master Mason.

“The light cannot be learned. The more you try to seek it, the more it flees from you,” answered the instructor.

“Then what are all these Master Masons doing sitting in lodge listening to you?” asked the new Master Mason.

In response, the instructor walked out of the lodge.

At that moment, the new Master Mason was brought to light.

Adoniram’s Treasures

Adoniram’s Treasures

Satolkin asked Adoniram: “After Grand Master Hiram Abif’s death, King Solomon gave you the jewel of the Chief Architect. What other treasures did he give you?’

Adoniram said: “Satolkin.”

Satolkin answered: “Yes, brother.”

Adoniram said: “Now you can take down my teaching sign and put up your own.”

Angel Watching

Angel Watching

A Master Mason used to take a nap every afternoon, so his apprentices asked him why he did it. He said, “I go to the dream world to watch the angels ascending and descending just as Jacob did.”

It was extremely hot one day so a number of the apprentices decided to take a nap. The master scolded them, but they explained, “We went to the dream world to watch the angels just like Jacob.”

“Oh really? How many did you see?” the master demanded.

One of the apprentices replied: “Only one, and when I asked him if our master came there every afternoon, he said he had never seen the man.”

Ambassadors of Light

Once during medieval times, a division of soldiers was engaged in a mock battle and some of the officers found it necessary to make their headquarters in a masons’ lodge.

The Master of the lodge told his stewards: “Feed them, but only the same simple fare that we eat.”

Because they were accustomed to special treatment, this made the officers angry. One said to the stewards: “Who do you think we are? We are the king’s soldiers, willing to sacrifice our lives for our country. Why don’t you treat us accordingly?”

The Master answered sternly: “Who do you think we are? We are ambassadors of light, working to raise temples to the glory of God.”
